Right branch of Saint Pères Couloirs in Val Thorens

The steepest and most esthetic (a good 50 degrees for the first 100 m and 2-3 m wide for the first 30 m) and slightly S-shaped the end of the slope is hidden, when watched from above, crating quite an atmosphere, an atmosphere reinforced by l’Arête des Saint Pères which, blocking the sun, maintains the couloir in the shade almost throughout the entire day and season.

  • Vertical drop: 350 m of couloir, then 500 m of fun skiing to the right of the big moraine.
  • Aspect: West
  • Technical difficulty: Very difficult.
  • Engagement: Serious
  • Danger: If there is not much snow, or on hard snow, slipping carries serious consequences!! Heavy snowfall; beware of avalanches.
  • Route: Obvious.
  • Suitable period: All season according to snow cover.
  • Snowboard: For experts, with a good sideslip to start.
  • Itinerary: From the “intersection”, head to the left of l’Aiguille des Saint Pères, and after 250 m long false-flat climb 50 m up a quite steep snow-slope. At the top of this slope, the couloir starts a few meters right, between the two points.
  • Time: between 30-90 min, depending on the snow.
  • NB: at the entrance, anchor possible around a large block (often sling in place); if the snow is concrete, use a rope.
